About Us Jim and Jeannette James came to Alaska in 1975, and moved to the North Pole area in 1980. They opened Jolly Acres Motel in 1987. Jim and Jeannette have been married for fifty-eight years, have had a lot of life experiences and enjoy visiting with travelers. Jim worked many years in the logging industry in the Pacific Northwest, and small engine repair. He has been an avid participant in hunting, fishing and camping in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. Jeannette served the last ten years in the Alaska Legislature and continues to be involved in community activities. She is a big supporter of agriculture and other resource development. Her occupation is accounting, small business management and consulting. She also enjoys visiting and the exchange of experience and ideas with all travelers, "a people person".
